m-spatial Enables 3GSM Congress Visitors

(3GSM Congress – Cannes, 14th February 2005) Cambridge, UK based Mobile Spatial Intelligence specialist, m-spatial today announced the availability of its ‘MapWay Local’ and ‘MapWay Maps’ applications as part of the ‘Pocket 3GSM on your mobile’ service.

MapWay Local provides 3GSM visitors with a mobile tourist map of the Cannes and Nice areas. A wide variety of useful amenities are highlighted on the map, ranging from bars, restaurants and hotels through to casinos, nightclubs and discos. Visitors can use the service to identify the areas of Cannes and Nice most useful to explore, depending on their needs – and then zoom in to find the precise location of specific destinations.

MapWay Maps provides street-level maps and walking directions for 3GSM visitors looking for specific destinations such as bars, restaurants and hotels they know by name. Visitors can use the service to find their way to unfamiliar locations where they may have arranged to meet colleagues or business contacts.

The MapWay applications are underpinned by m-spatial’s Spatial Platform – which is already in use in Vodafone UK, Vodafone Germany, Orange, O2 and T-mobile. The Spatial Platform delivers a set of interactive spatial components and manages multiple third party sources of comprehensive localised mapping and Point of Interest (POI) information utilised within the applications.

PocketThis CEO Nancy Benovich Gilby commented: “With so many visitors in an unfamiliar place – the uniquely usable ‘made to measure’ maps provided by the MapWay Local and MapWay Maps services are an invaluable addition to the ‘Pocket 3GSM on your mobile’ service.”

m-spatial CEO Andy Walker added: “We are delighted to partner with PocketThis and to provide the mapping capabilities within ‘Pocket 3GSM on your mobile’. Together with the other facilities providing in-depth information about the conference, exhibition and selected local bars and restaurants, ‘Pocket 3GSM on your mobile’ provides the complete solution for 3GSM Congress visitors. We are also grateful to TeleAtlas for the supply of their comprehensive mapping data and to European business data provider, MI International, for the use of their POI data for the Cannes and Nice areas.”

Dominic Tonner, CEO of MI International, commented: “3GSM is an ideal environment for PocketThis and m-spatial to demonstrate the power of their products and MI International is happy to supply its POI data to help them achieve this.”

m-spatial is exhibiting at stand F56 in Hall 2.
